The Haverhill Smart Lofts is a mixed-use historic redevelopment located in vibrant downtown Haverhill. The 14 apartments are equipped with the latest in smart technology from programmable motorized window blinds to smart lighting, door controls and thermostats. The 3,000+ square feet of ground floor commercial space is occupied by a luxury Bridal Boutique, Paul Francis Bridal. 55 solar panels sit atop the south-facing roof providing 30 megawatt hours of electricity annually for use within the building.
The restoration of the Lofts came with a number of challenges. Originally built in 1882 as a shoe factory within the Washington Street Shoe District, this building sat vacant for many years before rehabilitation efforts were made. The large windows were replaced with historically matching wood windows providing plenty of natural sunlight. The tall 10-foot ceilings give a spacious feel. The ceilings and walls are finished in gypsum board to reflect the building’s longstanding historic use as Haverhill’s leading hotel, Hotel Thorndike from 1886 until 1920.
Construction of the Haverhill Smart Lofts was completed in April 2021.
